Not only do we train a batch of young and creative minds in the world of makeup but we also get to learn from them. As the industry evolves, we evolve with it to keep in tune with all the new learning. But there are a few things that never get old. One of them is an ultimate list of makeup mistakes that you should avoid doing. While we teach this at our makeup academy in Chennai, we thought why not share it with you too!
Not Removing Your Makeup
Everyone is guilty of this one! You always think that it’s okay after a night out or a full tiring day at work but it’s going to cost your skin later. Makeup settles in your pores, making you more prone to acne or even worse, an infection. If you are too tired and can’t get up from bed, have a packet of makeup removing wipes at your bedside table. This way at least the gunk will be off, even if you can’t wash it off immediately!
Forgetting To Moisturize Before Makeup
This is the biggest mistake you can do before you apply makeup. One of the first things we teach at Proart makeup academy in Chennai is moisturizing the skin well before any kind of makeup application. It can make your face look dull, cracked, old, and tired. Once you face has cream/moisturizer on it has a good base for the makeup to sit on. So, ensure that your face is properly hydrated before you apply makeup.
Doing Your Makeup In The Wrong Lighting
Have you ever felt that you makeup looks different when you are doing it in front of your dressing table vs. when you step out? Good lighting is essential while applying makeup. All our seats at the makeup academy in Chennai have amazing lighting so that you understand how the makeup is going to look when you step out and also how it is going to photograph. No one likes white faces in pictures!
Washing Your Hands Before Applying Makeup
A lot of times we tend to dab our makeup with our fingers or swipe away extra concealer with our hand. But do we remember to wash our hands before it? Washing your hands before you use makeup will also ensure that makeup products in pots and palettes stay good for longer. The more you dip your dirty hands into a makeup pot; chances are higher that bacteria may spoil the product earlier than its expiry date!
Thinking More Is Better
More makeup doesn’t mean better. In fact it’s quite the opposite. One of the things that you must know about makeup is how to layer it. Thin layers of makeup always give you an idea of how much more you need and you don’t go overboard. Not only does more makeup look cakey but you also waste a lot of product!
Washing Makeup Tools
One of the most common mistakes people do is forgetting to clean their makeup tools. Whether it is brushes, sponges or even electronic cleanser brushes, it’s important you clean them.
They may look clean but they are loaded with bacteria, dead skin cells, dirt, debris and oils that aren’t visible to the naked eye. At Proart makeup academy (Chennai), we instruct our students to clean their tools at least once a week. And the best part is that it’s extremely easy to do it. Use any baby shampoo or regular shampoo you have if you don’t have a brush cleanser, dunk it all in a tub of water, squeeze out all the makeup, scrub in the soap or shampoo, rinse and let it air dry!
Not Blending Face Makeup With Your Neck
We’ve all seen those memes where a full face of makeup doesn’t match with the neck and trust us; you don’t want to be one. Always take your makeup base down to your neck and even your ears. Most people tend to forget the ears, especially when you are doing a full concealer-corrector-foundation face as your ears and neck will stand out!
Using Expired Products
If you don’t eat expired food, why would you use expired makeup products! One of the most basic learning at Proart makeup academy is to understand when to say goodbye to a makeup product. Don’t know or can’t see an expiry date on a product? Follow our guide!
